WDS RES.RWM file

Hi, I am totally new to RDS and could do with a bit of advice please.

I have just moved to a new school and I am looking at how they deploy images of various machines to classrooms.

In the Images folder in WDS there are 24 images of different PCs and laptops. There is also a Res.RWM file which is almost 40Gb in size which is obviously going to impact on diskspace.

 

I am sure that some of these images are no longer needed, but how do I get rid of them and reduce the size of the RWM file?

 

WDS is installed on the DC and all of the pupil and staff home folders are on this server too, so I need to ensure that there is plenty of disk space for their work.

 

If I right click on a wim file and export it to another location, would this reduce the RWM file size?

 

Any idiots guides would be more than gratefully received

Then work out if you can use the existing images or if it's better for you to wipe them and start again. When I came to this school the imaging of the machines was very sketchy and so implementing a good structure to WDS became a necessity. I found that although quite difficult to set up at first using the MDT tools has been invaluable with regards to a simple deployment and management of images without having to take up a large amount of disk space. It works like a stripped down version sccm so you can deploy different software to identical hardware with just a click.

 

Good luck with this. It is probably the hardest thing to control and keep efficient

I think I am going to use WDS on a different server and start again from scratch. I am going to have do a serious amount of reading up on WDS and MDT to suss out the best way forward.
