We have Windows 2008 R2 standard Server and each user has a home directory but when users logon to the server with Windows 7 machine, their home drive and name does not appear. But if they login with WindowsXP machines, their home folders and names are fine.

How are you deploying network drives? Using GPO or scripts?

I suspect you're possibly using a script and this could be failing under Windows 7, but works fine under XP. Have you checked the event logs on the machine for any clues?

HI

When we first went over to windows 7. We had some strange things like this. When we went into the server into the folder the names of the users folders were meant to be there username and they all showed up as mydocuments irrespactive of user. On the windows 7 machine it renamed the mapped drive to I am not sure if it was mydouments or the username. We traced it to the desktop.ini folder was created in the users folder.

We had to set a script to delete this at logon.

We also found that under the users folder on the desktop they got a load of extra folders on the local machine that we had to delete on log on.

@Ricki, I know what you're talking about, but this wouldn't stop Documents mapping correctly.

@tushan - Try entering the FQDN \\Servername.domain.domain\username$ as the Documents path. This will work with XP and 7. 7 in many respects favours the FQDN.

Hi

Thanks to Michael, Richard, and everyone who had contributed to this thread.

Michael - I used GPO, not script and Ricki, I'm experiencing exactly your initial problems with Windows 2008 R2 standard with deploying Windows 7. Everything was fine with XP. My documents folders is also showing in favourites. What a nightmare!!!!!
