MatthewL Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I routinely build PC's up for clients at home, I do the same install time and time except I just use a different product key (what ever there's is) and different drivers for each model. Once I have done a machine I tend to take a image of it using ghost once all the updates are installed so I can just reimage if an issue in the future. Is there something like WDS (never used, only seen in play at work) where I can just inject the drivers and get it to build from a base image? Obviously I will need to have a different one for XP Home, Pro etc and just enter the key I need, is this possible?
cpjitservices Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I believe FOG can do this. fogproject.org
ChrisH Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 You can use MDT to do this on a laptop. You may just need to get a third party DHCP server depending on your laptop OS. You could use static IPs but it's worth the hassle of getting DHCP going.
MatthewL Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 I am right in thinking MDT is part of Server 2003?
ChrisH Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 No it's a separate download. Microsoft Deployment Toolkit You don't need a server OS to install it on.

plexer Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If you plan on deploying xp home with mdt take a look at this blog Install Windows XP Home Edition with MDT 2010 – Stephan's Blog as mdt will only import a pro o/s Ben
