IWB and PC setup

Staff currently use laptops with our Smartboards. We are running into a number of issues with calibration and wires being incorrectly inserted etc so want to move to a dedicated PC per IWB. We want to secure the PC so that students can't hack into the network during breaks, sort out the trailing cables issue and prevent staff from fiddling with the wires. Does anyone have a neat solution?

Depending on what laptops you have could you not invest in a docking station? Dell go ones where you just clip the laptop into place. Worth a look.

Not really a solution but if you are looking for small factor PC that you can “hide”, we use nettop PCs, they are smaller than two DVD cases, and everything is built-in (1.6 Ghz Atom quad core, 2Gb RAM, wireless, etc. but no DVD). We got some with 19” monitor and Win 7 license at around £320 each. They run Win 7, Office 2010 and Photoshop 5.5 without any problems.

Thanks for your ideas. We have a variety of laptops so the docking station idea would only work if everyone had the same laptop. We have considered a small version pc but are still concerned about damage at break and lunch times. Maybe I'll see something at Bett!

We just use regular desktop PC's here which have never suffered from any damage. If students are damaging things at break and lunch times then thats a problem with management not IT . As for stopping people fiddling with cables, lots of cable ties is the key.
