Remove libraries from office and IE explorer. Change default save location

Hi,

 

So many people in our school are saving locally into libraries and then loosing documents when profiles are deleted.

 

I've read how you can install admx files into GPO's but not being in charge of the server im unable to install it as our server guy isnt keen on adding anything but i am able to use login scripts.

 

Is there a way of changing the default save location of office applications and also internet explorer through th registry or another way?

Installing RSAT allows you to manage GPOs from a workstation - but I would advise you consult your 'server guy' first. Server guy or girl, they should be helping to address issues, not hide in the server room

You can remove the libraries via reg keys on login scripts. Bit of an arse but can be done. Pm me if you want the reg keys.

Was going to look into rsat but forgot all about it. All i got when i brought it up is that he didnt think it was possible and from the souns of it i dont think it will go any further than that unless i step in.

I use RSAT all the time. I can manage all GPOs from a Windows 7 workstation and don't have the need to keep Remote Desktop'ing into the server.

here you go : Remove Libraries from Navigation pane.

 

At the top it shows how to use group policy to make the change. But i suggest to you to look at the bottom. It provides vbs script for altering the permissions of the registry key and then changing the registry key so that the libraries icon is hidden. I assume that will then solve your issues. I would suggest doing thorough testing before deploying though.

Yes the adm is all good and well pointed out. But he did say in the first post that he wanted to use a script and not group policy to deploy it due to his "server guy".
