jedmondson Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I have a client who is thinking about using Linux on their user machines. It would be great if I could tell them that other organizations are using Linux. So if you are using it could you possibly let me know and which distro you have chosen. If you could also post your organization name and size. Many Thanks.
glennda Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Not on classroom desktops but most of our backed is Ubuntu 10.04 (LTS)
dhicks Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 So if you are using it could you possibly let me know and which distro you have chosen. If you could also post your organization name and size. We use Debian Squeeze on a bunch of pupil laptops to load up a minimal GUI and run Chrome in full-screen mode. 1
featured_spectre Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Former establishment had 4 Ubuntu 10.04 lts distros used, and fedora running in 1 room
CyberNerd Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 We have a few laptops running Linux Mint (browser, LibreOffice running natively, windows apps running on Citrix) We have a handful of linux servers (RedHat, Debian and Centos) and around 300 thin clients running thinstation.
cpjitservices Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 We use Linux Servers running mainly CentOS, never used Linux as A networked desktop but I Know it can be done, although I have seen student laptops running a flavour of Linux Mint in the past with just Browser and Office capabilities - very secure, fast and reliable systems.
nathanfriend Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Plenty of Linux in use here, SuSe enterprise and Ubuntu. Linux Counter: Home Page
joe90bass Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Thinstation on 120 Thin clients, 1 Ubuntu 10.04 running Squid as a proxy for staff
linuxgirlie Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 We use Linux. 12 Servers 350 Fat Client 700 Students 100 Staff Linux Schools Project on all of it (based on Ubuntu)
lownoize Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 We use Linux 60 Clients 4 Servers all systems run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
glennda Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I'm envious of people who use Linux clients, we arn't allowed here, did trial it but wasn't allowed/ forgot to mention we also use it for Linux KVM so as a hypervisor running some 15 virtual machines mixing between 2k3, 2k8 r2 and ubuntu, using a Oracle file system cluster for the Shared storage (HP MSA2000 Fibre Channel)
