Hello!

I've never been away in Jan before but one of the guys at work is off to Egypt and says it will be hot!

I'm thinking about taking the missus as part of her Xmas present but wondered if any of you have been anywhere nice in Jan before??? I only want to go for a week and i'd like all inclusive if possible.

I don't really fancy Egypt, heard too many bad things about getting ill

Any thoughts???

Thanks :)

Yeh I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed New York. Was there summer tho, would love to go back in the winter time. None of the false, pretentious Americans you get on the west coast / California etc.. Pretty easy to get to from the UK too I believe only like 6 hrs or something?

Yeah 6-7 hour flight but then you can expect 2 hours to get through customs lol

Oh and if you do go don't forget to fill in the green card (EVEN FOR CONNECTING FLIGHTS????) else you have to do a walk of shame down the row of customs officers with a bright red folder with your passport in :D woops!

Egypt is very nice - as long as you don't drink the local tap water. Also the thing to be wary of out there is going from boiling hot outside to going straight into a cold air-conditioned room multiple times in quick succession < thats what tends to make you sick rather then the food! I've been out there about 8 times now and only had a problem once but my mum lives in cario hence going so many times.

I'm flying out to Kuala Lumpa in Jan for 2 weeks for 350 return :) I'm going to end up in bali so it should be nice and hot then - and not amazingly expensive.

I went to Vietnam this January, it was so unusual going away to somewhere so hot from so cold...suffered with heatstroke a bit which may have been related but it was definately worth it. Probably a bit far for a week though :)

Florida! no que times at the theme parks :D

I'd class that as a "2 weeker" as well. So far i'm feeling a week in NY as i've never been and it looks AWESOME or giving Egypt a try

The trouble you will find is that to go somewhere hot in Jan you will have to travel outside of Europe, so most of the flights will be pretty long. So you may have to make a bit of a compromise... temperature vs travelling distance!

New York is awesome as others had mentioned, but really expensive. By the sounds of it you want a nice beach and all inclusive £500-£600 deal!

My bro has been to sharm el sheikh 5 times in 2 years going to the Hilton all inclusive each time (£650 all inc) and recommends it! Wants me to go with him in April so I think I am off!

I hear skegness is nice in January, can't guarantee the weather will be too good mind.

On a more serious note, have you thought about the opposite of a 'hot holiday' and thought about skiing or boarding? Plenty of places in Europe for that.......

I love skiing, i've been a few times but the missus doesn't fancy it at all. I keep trying to convince her.

I might take her to the dry slopes in round the corner or the slopes in Castleford first.

Only problem (in my opinion) places like NY, Dubai for a week, is the plane fare you have to pay!

£460 pp to dubai

£420 pp to NY

Don't know what sort of budget Millgate has for this! But £800+ for him and his lass just for flights... I wouldn't do that for 1 week... deffo a 2 weeker job!

Skegness will be full of drunken bandsmen at somepoint in January as its the national mineworkers brass bands championships at the skeggy butlins, but it is great fun and alot of fantastic entertainment (not just brass bands)

I dont really have a set amount i want to spend. I dont want to spend thousands on a weeks holiday (especially when i'm saving for a wedding and honeymoon) but i want a good holiday. I need to find a balance
