Edu-IT Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Probably a daft question but looking at purchasing a SAN SSL certificate. GoDaddy say: Secure UNLIMITED servers. Compare that to other Certification Authorities that charge for licensing on each server. Does this mean that I can put in the SAN's for two servers, and this SSL will work? I was under the impression that an SSL request had to be created on each server.

For example if you had 3 web servers hosting http://www.domain.com you can install it on all three but if you had another web server that was hosting a domain that wasn't in the SSL certificate you could install it but it wouldnt be trusted.
jamesfed Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 AFAIK you have to have a .ac.uk domain to get a free certificate. Not anymore - LEAs can register and they act as a contact point for schools to get ahold of their certs. As such we got ha.fitzharrys.oxon.sch.uk for free (living proof)

The SSL certificate would have a Common Name of ABC.com and have SANs for A.ABC.com,B.ABC.com,DEF.com,A.DEF.com,B.DEF.com and could be used on both servers.
