enjay Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I need one staff member to be able to run a clunky old 16-bit app, which really doesn't play ball in Win7, even under with Compatibility Mode. Virtual PC XP Mode would appear to do what I need - what (if any) are the potential problems with using this? What kind of system spec should I look at using it under? He isn't going to be doing anything resource-hungry in XP Mode (and isn't a heavy user in Win7 either, come to that).
LeMarchand Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Don't get your hopes up too high. Most of the ancient programs used at my schools worked in XP Mode, but some of them just wouldn't play ball.
enjay Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Well, it is worth a shot, as the only other option is a very expensive upgrade to a new version of the software, and that has already been turned down.
Domino Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 You just need make sure the box supports virtualisation (normally a bios setting) and that the win7 version is high enough (pro or above IIRC) Other than that it's not really very hungry at all, we use it for a few old clunkers here and it does the job
