glennda Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I have a load of machines (all HP DC7700 Ultra small form factor - might be 7800 can't remember) and at random times (tends to be induced while using bluesky though) the graphics card crashes the screen goes black and then comes back with saying the the driver had been recovered. Have tried older/newer versions of the drivers but can't figure it out. Happens randomly across many machines so assume its not a hardware fault.
SYNACK Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Is this while its running flash content by any chance, several versions of flash hosed the display subsystem in Windows7x64 when it tried to run as accelerated. (in flash settings). Might be your issue. Also look at BIOS upgrades and check the RAM just in case.
glennda Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 It could well be to do with flash - hadn't thought of that - Its a 32bit machines (as we are across the site). I tested the ram on the machines before they where imaged 6 weeks ago and everyone passed so i hope its not that (but as happens on multiple machines i doubt its an issue for 10 + machines to have developed faults in 6 weeks.
m25man Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 +1 for Synacks post, I had the same issue and I have a Nvidia Cuda in mine W7x64 but it seemed to disappear after yet another Flash update.
bio Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Glad to see this post.... We have a couple of HP 8200 SFF (around 70) ...that keep BSOD'ing since last monday. They BSOD at the logon screen. They worked flawlessly for some months.....The only 2 variables i can think about is a new antivirus pattern file and the winter time clock change. It seems that the INTEL HD video driver & KB2393802 also mess things up (looking on the internet)... Building a new image on that machine from the ground up now to see whats going on... bio..

You've got to watch those intel drivers. Some of the ones that come through Windows Update have a nasty habit of corrupting the video system so bad you need to reinstall windows to repair it. 1
Michael Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I've had a problem reported to me of the exact same symptoms on an HP 7700 SFF which has Intel on board graphics. This also is running Windows 7 SP1 x86. Looking at the event logs I noticed the following errors: Log Name: System Source: Display Date: 02/11/2011 14:21:38 Event ID: 4101 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: COMPUTERNAME Description: Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I could try swapping the memory as I am presuming maybe the memory is causing the onboard graphics to crash and the system to unexpectedly reboot. This is one theory anyway.
irsprint84 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 same, arggh! updated to flash 11 on Friday so hopefulyl gone away, anyone installed a particular version that stops the crashing? I had 10.3 before
Michael Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 In this case I had Flash 11.0.1.152 as part of image. I'm not entirely convinced the problem is Flash related.
irsprint84 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 found this: Blue Screen after Windows Update KB2393802 (Hermes) I have 75% AMD boards with no issues so I m guessing the above is correct
Michael Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 According to this Security Bulletin KB2393802, it does not affect: Windows 7 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 1 Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-based Systems Service Pack 1 I have double checked this and it's definitely not listed in Programs and Features. So unless you're running Windows 7 Gold, you shouldn't be affected by this problem. If you are running Windows 7 SP1, it's probably something else such as a memory problem or application conflict.
irsprint84 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 hum.. the problem only seems to be affecting the intel systems and only since last monday, I ve even installed the latest intel driver update about 60 machines
irsprint84 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Well found a thread on intel saying not to use their drivers but the ones directly from the manufacturer (Stone Computers) because there maybe compatibility issues
Michael Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The HP 7700 has an Intel Q965 graphics chip. Windows 7 SP1 installs driver version 8.15.10.1749 and I've downloaded the latest driver from Intel's site, version 8.15.10.1930, so lets see what happens

irsprint84 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I ve gone to that version plus done inf update before it
irsprint84 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 even though I installed the update before the bluescren .dmp referenced 8.14 even though I installed 8.15
Michael Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Are you running Windows 7 or Windows 7 SP1? I'll report back in the next few days, but so far so good *touch wood*
irsprint84 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 it *seems* ok since I ve downloaded from stone the inf and graphics driver
Michael Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Just to confirm downloading the 8.15.10.1930 driver does fix the graphical glitches/crashing. You can either download the driver from Intel or running Windows Update will install the updated driver.
irsprint84 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 hum.. I m currently re-imaging now when I installed 8.15 on top of 8.14 it crashed with a error for 8.14 did you re-image or install over it?
Michael Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 No I didn't re-image, just installed the driver on top. There's nothing wrong with anything else in my case.
Gibby Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I work with over 300 of these machines. We have around 40 of them with this problem. I ran some stress tests on and they pass all the tests except for any graphic rendering which will cause the PC to reboot. I think there might be some hardware issues with these machines.
glennda Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Yes I think it is. I tried everything to no avail. In the end I had to swap out the affected machines. I've got about 80 thankfully they are due replacing in the summer.
