RM CC4 costs v An experienced technicial person (me!)

Hi all,

 

Does anyone have a ballpark figure for a move, per desktop, to CC4?

 

The only reason I am asking is that I'm after some money in the budget for technical training, and would like to do a cost cost comparison between a CC4 network + a technicians wage vs A Network Manager (me!) + Vanilla & EES + Training.

 

We have around 150 machines (mainly laptops) here.

 

RM don't seem to have any prices on their website (which in my experience means lots of sales calls and follow ups!).

i too have pm'd you, though had i just been commenting on prices i'd announce it here, it's not as if its a guarded secret that they charge extortionate amounts for joining their clan

I would strongly advise against CC4 for a mainly laptops network. Performance notwithstanding, the nightmare of pushing updates and wsus isn't worth the hassle. I know it's not giving you numbers for costing but having seen multiple costings for several similar setups with wildly changing costs I don't think it would have any impact. I really do think a call to RM would work, just be very blunt.

As for EES - get in touch with Phoenix Software who were stonkingly helpful when we got ours through a couple of weeks ago. Not only did a price come through extremely quickly but they were extremely helpful in explaining the options whereas others (including RM) just dumped a quote filled with acronyms and other technical guff without any form of explanation whatsoever.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm not looking to move to CC4, just get some pricing so that I can boost my argument that paying for some training is cost effective. The setup here is quite solid and all Win7/2008R2, All virtualised with Hyper V and using SPecOps for deployment.

RM Training usually costs around £1k upwards (depending on who you go through but that was the lowest price I could find).

MS Training for MCITP: SA costs around £1k for all the modules, exams and training materials.

 

Only thing you would be saving on is not having the RM stuff in your school!

We had quotes for CC4 over the summer and it was muchos cash. We are stuck with CC3 at the moment and eventually plan on going vanilla but as RM were in quoting for some network upgrade we got them to quote us at the same time.

I thought the quote we were given was very expensive. We are planning to DIY it and ditch cc3/cc4 and we reckon we can do it for 25% to 33% of the cost.
