Microsoft Open Value Subscription

Hope all is well in the ICT world in schools.

 

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

 

I'm looking to buy the Microsoft Open Value Subscription for Office for a primary school as I think it is good value as it's not based on the number of machines but the number of full time staff. Now heres my question as I'm getting some conflicting info (not suprised as it's Microsoft).

 

Is it based on any full time staff in school that uses the computers (for example the premises officer etc) or is it based on just the full time teaching staff (teachers and LSA's) which I believe is anyone who works over 12 hours a week?

if you mean the microsoft EES its full time staff - dinner ladies , support staff, anyone over the 12 hours

The advice we received when setting this up was that we should count anyone who uses the computers as an essentials part of their job and works over 200 hours a year (I think). So for us this included teachers, TAs and PO.

Whatever - it's a cracking deal especially if you shop around when it comes to purchasing the contract - huge variation in price.

Full Time Equivalent staff is anyone who works 200+ hours in a year and uses a computer as part of their job. So, for example, we've not counted cleaners, and all the kitchen staff only count as one, as only one of the girls uses a computer.

 

200 hours is a pretty low barrier, though, 5 hours a term time week, so be careful it doesn't include anyone who comes on site for (e.g.) music lessons or something.

Many thanks for all your responses on this. I've been shopping around for the best value licneces. It does work out well and the ICT Co-Ordinator is happy as well which is always a bonus.
