Intranet becomes in accessable when adding secondary IP address.....

Hello peeps,

 

Weve just had a cashless system installed in our school. and on the finance machine we have to have a secondary IP address added to the system so it can see the cashless server. once this had been added our intranet page on the finance machine becomes in accessable, we experience a page cannot be found error. however when removing the IP address it works fine.....

 

is there a reason its doing this, anyone know a fix other than adding a seperate network card....?

 

OS is windows XP. and were using RM connect 4.

Eep, on XP. That has a very limited version of ISS that only supports one root site at a time. You coule look at the settings in IIS and check out the bindings but it may simply not be able to serve content on two seporate IP addresses at once. The other thing you could look at is adding a NAT translation between the two networks using your router that could redirect the IP traffic from one address to another.

It doesn't sound like he has IIS on the finance machine, that'd be on the server he's connecting to.

 

I would guess that the issue is down to routing. What are the 2 card's IP details (ie. IP address, netmask, gateway, DNS etc...).

Thats right IIS is not running on the finance machine. I beleive thats on the main server which isnt XP. think its win 2008 not 100% sure.

 

Im using one network card with an additional address assigned to it so I can see the cashless main computer.

 

Schools range is 10.x.x.x and the cashless range is 192.168.x.x both using different subnets.

 

Ive done this setup before in a school and its never stopped access before to intranet. I guess its something to do with connect 4.

Just checking, you didn't add an a default gateway on the 192.168.x.x range?

no because I asumed despite the ranges being different they would all go through the same gateway / switch eventually down the line.... could this be the fatal error :-s

Did you ever checki the IP bindings on the IIS server to make sure that the sites were bound to the right IP addresses? Can you ping the secondary address from one of its intended clients?
