kevin_lane Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 has any one done the upgrade exam if so how did they find it?
featured_spectre Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 If you have all the knowledge fresh from 2003, upgrading to 2008(r2) is not too bad actually. A lot of it is still relevant but there is a large chunk added on due to the new features. Worth doing if you have the time and money IMO.
strawberry Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yes, and tricky. There is a lot of content, might be worth doing the 2 exams rather than the upgrade.
Kitkatninja Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I only tried the upgrade exam for the MCSA once (the free beta - 71-648) and failed that. I passed the MCSE upgrade exam on my 3rd attempt, however one of the attempts was the free beta (and like any other beta exam, it's released before any study materials are out even on technet it was a bit slim back then). The upgrade exam itself is split into different parts (depending on how many exams the upgrade exam replaces will dictate how many part the exam will be in) and the overall score will be the lowest score of the different parts. For example on the 649 I took, I got on one part: 737 (pass), part 2: 760 (pass), part 3: 350 (fail) so my overal score for the exam was 350.
kevin_lane Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 ouch that is a bit unfair but i can understand why you failed the whole exam. well i am hopefully going to buy exam tomorrow and book it soon my only worrie is that from what i have heard they have changed some of the understanding of AD groups and terminology
kevin_lane Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 Ok well I took my exam and failed I got 754 on the network infrastructure and 478 on active directory. And what a pain in the back side at one point I thought I was going to faint because some of the questions I just had no idea. and in some ways am glad I failed because only went on my own info and did a brief skim of the upgrade book. I did find it strange when they split the exam e.g time remaining felt I had less time even though it said 3 hours Sort of feel I should of have taken the infrastructure exam on its own
