macsit Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Any idea where to find adm file? I need to copy the old adm (copied from one of xp's machine that used to connected to 2k3 with GPO set already - don't want to start over on GPO) Want to know where is it in 2k8 so I can replace the specific file instead of building a new policy in scratch. Thanks in advanced!
bio Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I don't think you know the concepts of GPO's very well. ADM or ADMX files are used to create GPo's, these GPo's are placed on AD objects. When a user or machine boots/log's in it will change registry values according to that GPO. GPO's do NOT create ADM files. I urge you to read materials about GPO's before mingling with them. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb310732 bio..
plexer Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 If you have access to the old machine you could backup/export it, If you don't then you'll have to recreate it. An adm(x) file is just a bunch of settings that can be set and used in a gpo. Ben
