Amplifier needed for Promethean board

Yesterday one of our Cambridge amps starting sending out clouds of black smoke so I deduced that it was broken!

I need a replacement - can anyone advise what I need - I am not sure what the spec is and the broken one has been binned so I dont know what I am looking for. The cheapest possible option is what we are looking at - bar a couple of laptops speakers, that is!

Plus a 12v 2 amp power supply that I had in a box ...

You can get them on ebay for about £8.00

 

Works a treat .... Plus its uncomplicated so no fiddling with switches and buttons etc ....

If TPTB want to replace like for like, I'd just look at your other amps and get something similar. Something like this is what my "Promethean" school uses. You don't want anything too powerful for the (no doubt) small speakers you have, and as the speaker connections are of the screw-on/bare wire type it should be easy enough to adapt any wire you already have (though you probably won't need to).

I've been replacing ours with these: VISION|TC2-AMP2|AMPLIFER MODULE, 2X 20W | CPC

 

They aren't dirt cheap but they are damn good value when you consider how much desk space you get back.

I've been using these QTX SOUND|KA-2 SILVER|AMPLIFIER, STEREO KARAOKE | CPC as replacements. Cheao, quite stylish and small footprint.

We use the TC2-AMP2 from Vision when replacing our Promethean original amps which die.

If you have a Freecycle group, put out a wanted Hi Fi system with external phono inputs. I'm using a nice little micro system in an ICT suite that a teacher donated.

@witch +1 for the above and the funky blue light is just awesome yeah! very reliable and cheap too for a one stop solution.

They actually come with some (usually too short) wires in the box, which have a screw-terminal plug you can swap onto your existing wires, which is what I've done each time.
