ambili Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) hi, I have A300 toshiba satellite, i used it for almost two years now.but few days ago It starts to powers off randomly each time it tried to load operating system, I replaced the hard disk with the new one but it doesn't fix the problem. Then i took it apart and clean the fan and mother board but still it behave the same. am wondering what could be the source of the problem ? If there's any one who knows the solution, please help cause am stuck and i don't know what else to do! Edited October 9, 2011 by ambili

Let's confirm. - Does it happen with the battery only (not using the AC Adapter) - Does it happen if you remove the battery and run from the AC Adapter solely - Can you 'cause' it to happen somehow? - When you applied the thermal compound did you clean the previous residue off and ensure a good tight fit? - Within your OS can you bring up the temperature of the CPU and see it gradually rise (to support a heat related theory). - Within the BIOS you may find a thermal cut off temperature, does this exist? - Again within the BIOS you may find a fan threshold speed after which the same could happen. - Does it immediately switch back on when it happens and if you do switch it straight back does it happen more quickly? Sorry for the lots of questions, just worth provoking some thought around all eventualities.
Michael Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 It could well be a memory problem the fact it fails to load the OS. Have you tried loading into Safe Mode?
Wils86 Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I've noticed on 3 of our Toshiba a300's that the CPU fan actually packs in and dies. Almost like the controller loses power. As a short term fix I run the usb power cables to the fan. (complete bodge job I now) in the end I had to replace the mobo.

Try using some diagnostic software like eurosoft PC Check to check individual components and run a stress test (this is bootable so not a windows program and will rule out windows drivers) Also it will be worth checking there is no debris in the USB ports - this is behaviour I've seen every now and then from damaged USB ports or where they have a short inside - when the USB drivers load it causes issue. 1
