Buying from the app store for school, how are you doing it?

Hi,

 

I still haven't purchased ARD due to trying to get something setup for buying from the app store, orginally we were going to find someone who would allow us to buy them using purchase order, but we have now decided to link our school apple id to our purchase card.

 

Just wondered how everyone else was doing this?

 

Reckon apple will every give schools a more suitable way of purchasing, especially if, lets say you had 100 ipads and wanted to buy the same app for all of them, i know theres another thread for asking questions at the west midlands leadership summit, and this must be, for the time, the most annoying issue using osx/iOS devices in school.

Ever so slightly off topic here but we got our unlimited client management license for ARD from RM upon installation of our mac server. Might be worth giving them a ring.

did they supply it on disc, or give you redeem codes for itunes?

We had it on disc as an unlimited site license. Unfortunately though our imacs outlive my duration here by a few months so I don't know the situation we were in at the time. Whether it's something they only offer in certain circumstances i'm not sure, but eager to find out.

ARD used to be purchasable as a stand alone application, but has recently gone Apple App store only. I know as we've had to get a refund as part of a major apple install we've just had done - real pain as we now have to find away to purchase from the app store!

2. I (and an ICT Co-ord at anotehr school) have simple purchased an ITunes pre-paid card and use that to buy apps for school.

 

(Obviously this only works in small numbers )

Pre-paid card is OK for small numbers like you say, unfortunately ARD is about £300

Apple Remote Desktop only costs $99 through the Mac App Store in Australia, I can't imagine that they're still charging £300 there.

As Apple have moved nearly all their apps to the Mac App Store for single purchases such as ARD or Final Cut X most Apple Education dealers should be able to sell you vouchers to the value, these come in £15, £25 or £50 denominations, I have just sold £600.00 worth to a school that bought a bucket load of kit from me.

 

For those that require more than 20 licences of a Mac App store product, such as Lion upgrades, FCP X or Pages then ASE's can provide the licences as well in the form of redeem codes or the school can buy direct from Apple...
