faza Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Does anyone know of a piece of freeware that i could use to broadcast a message to all network users.
webman Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Provided your clients have the Messenger service running and not firewalled, you can use windows' built-in net send command: net send /domain:mydomain Logoff now or forever lose your work. Would send the message to all users loggged in to the domain 'mydomain'.
localzuk Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 No, unless they use net send - which you most certainly don't want in a school Is this for staff or pupil use?
faza Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 for staff, whern they recieve a message messenger will pop up wont they have the facility to reply to the message? What program do we use to recieve the messages?
plexer Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 The messenger service just provides the user a pop up containing your message and the option to close it by clicking ok. Don't confuse the inbuilt messenger service with msn messenger. It's completely different. Ben
techman Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I have sent a message using Net Send but it has not appeared on any clients. How can I check that it enabled on the LAN? Thanks, techman
localzuk Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 It won't be enabled - Microsoft disabled it by default from XP SP2 (I think), and removed it entirely in Windows Vista and 7 as far as I know. 1
techman Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Thanks. I am looking for a way to send a message in a pop-up to all clients on the LAN. One-way messaging only. Majority of clients are Windows XP.
Mako Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Net Send via the messenger service is probably the easiest in Windows XP. If it's disabled, you can enable it via Group Policy: Computer configuration\windows settings\security settings\system services\Messenger and set it to enable. Once it's on, use the command detailed in a post above to cause a pop-up on client machines. 1
