RabbieBurns Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 is there a 2008r2 recovery mode? got a server that boots up, but all i get is the mouse pointer. IT wont boot into any of the safe modes either.
itwalkthrough Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I would try your diagnostics disk that came with the server and see if there are any hardware issues with it first.

If I unplug the suspected bad install hdd, it will boot fine from the cd. But with the HDD plugged in as well, it just goes "loading operating system" and then straight to the "windows did not load properly, press blah for safe mode" If I swap out the HDD with a known working install, it boots perfectly. If I put the suspected bad installaiton into another server, this boots fine.

penfold Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I want to run a repair on one of our serves which keeps crashing. I tried the link above but it is no longer working, is it possible to either re-install SP1 or do a repair on Server2008R2?

Just tried this, but all I get is Windows server2008R2 SP1 is already installed. I don't get the option to upgrade. Edit: I just used the SP1 disk not the Server2008R2 including SP1 disk. It worked but I had to re-activate Windows again - I assume that's because it thinks it's an upgrade rather than an actual repair? Hopefully this will sort out the problems we've been having for the last few weeks as failing that I think I'll need to build a new server:(
