HP Elite 8000 Realtek HD Audio drivers and Software problems

Hi all,

 

At our school ICT like to do pod casting, sound recordings etc. We have a newish ICT suite with HP Elite 8000 Desktops with Realtek HD Audio chips intergrated to the motherboards with multi function front ports, e.g. the ones which you can insert either a microphone or another set of headphones. Well anyway the Realtek software takes away the windows volume settings for microphones and forces the user to choose which device they have plugged in and also forces them to calibrate the microphone before they can start using any recording software within windows. This is becoming a night mare, no teacher expects a class to sit there for 10 minutes and calibrate recording devices. The operating system is XP Service Pack 3. I know in the past you can just get the .inf files etc and point device manager to these for the drivers. If anyone has these or any suggestions that would be great, also if anyone has a vbs script to reset windows sound levels on login for all users via gpo that would be even better.

This works for 7 but YMMV with XP.

 

Open up Sound Manager from the Realtek systray icon. (Make sure you've got a mic plugged in)

 

Device advance settings at the top of the right hand column.

 

In the Recording Device settings part of advanced settings choose "Separate all input jacks...." - OK this.

 

Go to the Mic in tab (which now probably says "Mic in at front panel (black)" rather than just "Microphone."

 

Set your recording and playback volume and Mic Boost if you need it. We also tick "Noise Suppression"

 

OK the Realtek HD Audio Manager to close it.

 

Remove the registry key starting up the Realtek software. It's probably HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\RtHDVCpl

 

Restart the PC and when you unplug and plug in a mic it should have your previous settings held and stops prompting "What have you just plugged in?" when you stick a microphone in.

 

If that works for you it'd be worth finding the affected registry keys and their values to make it easier when changing a room full with just a registry patch. If you get there before I do let me know please.
