Warning - HP Printers and Group Policy Preferences

Just a heads up for any of you who don’t know.

There seems to be a problem with the HP print drivers and GPP.

If you deploy your printers using GPP and start to notice slow login times this could be why.

Interactive Services Detection in Application Event Log when Mapping HP Printers

You will notice Interactive Services Detection logs in event viewer and quite a dramatic increase in login times. Might be a fix for it, I’ve not looked a great deal yet.

Here’s how much it effected my login times.

All times are from the login screen until the desktop loads

4 printers mapped with GPP = 1 Minute 20 seconds

3 printers mapped with GPP = 1 Minute 20 seconds

2 Printers = 47 seconds

1 Printer = 28 seconds

No printers = 7 seconds

Printers mapped using logon scripts = 9 seconds

As you can see it really did add a lot of time on. Bit of a shame, because GPP was nice and easy to manage printer. Will stick with scripts for now and keep the fast login times until I find a fix

Does anyone know the answer to this..? We have Xerox MFD's which seem to cause the same problem..?
