Application causes blue screen on startup - need to get to msconfig

Have a lenovo laptop where one of the lenovo applications is causing the laptop to instantly blue screen when you log in. Does the same in safe mode.

Does anyone know a good boot disc I can boot from using a USB drive that will allow me to disable the application from the startup?

I think BartPE will do it for you, though it's been a while since I used it and I can't quite remember if it lets you get to Msconfig. You'll need to burn it to a CD though I think, I don't think it runs from USB.

Your best bet might be to use BartPE as Davey suggested earlier (you can get it from Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD).

Once you're in with that, you should be able to edit the registry like so:

(These instructions have been borrowed from a thread I found here: Editing Registry from Recovery Console - Configuration-Customize - Windows-XP)

1. Click the icon in the lower left corner and select Run

2. Type Regedit.exe

3. Highlight HKEY_USERS

4. Click the File menu and select Load Hive

5. Navigate to %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\Software

6. Name the hive something like MyHive

7. Browse to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]

8. Look under Run and RunOnce to see if your problem app is there - if so then delete it. If not then try looking under:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion] for the same Run and RunOnce.

9. Once you're done (whether you made any changes or not) it is import to UNLOAD the hive before closing:

10. Highlight the MyHive, click on the file menu, and select unload hive.

This *should* work, but I've not got chance to try it myself at the moment.
