Creating new users in AD - Not creating profile folder

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

when creating new profiles in AD the documents folder is creating correctly however the profile folder isn't. I have checked the paths of both and they are both correct, have also checked the permissions on the top level folders to make sure that this isn't the problem.

Our structure works like this:

Profile path

\\server\profilesstudents$\year\studentsname

Documents Path

\\server\documentsstudents$\year\studentsname

Any ideas as to what could stop the profile from creating, it doesn't create on a log in or log off however the profile does work as it should and can see software, shared drives etc

thanks!

profiloe folders should be created at logon but will only be created if the folder they are in has the correct permissions for the user and usually i apply these on a this folder only basis. Id as a temp test just create a new user make them an admin and see if their profile folder appears.

if they are working they arnt just hidden or something are they?

adding them in as domain admins works. The folders create and lock correctly, if we make a template using a current students account that had worked and locked then it works correctly but with new users with the exact same permissions as previous accounts we created we then have the problem so I am unsure as to where the permissions problem lies now... if something has changed in the permissions for the students would it not effect all the previous accounts created too?

Also one thing I have noticed sometimes they wont be created on first login but onece logged out and back in again it will be there. We are pushing more towards the redirection the profiles with 2008 as it seems to work better.

Are you by any chance running another software that can be used for user management, like Ranger Account Manager? If so, have the accounts previously been created by such a software using default directory path and permissions templates?
