HTML Editor

Trying to save myself some time here.

 

I've been asked to provide a HTML editor for the students to use.

 

Preferably wysiwyg, must be free and easy to deploy on a windows network.

 

There are lots out there but which ones are you using?

 

 

On a slightly different note. How do your students publish their web sites? Do you use an internal server or a free host somewhere? Pros and cons for both please.

NVU is good when it does what it says in the manual. Quite frankly though, in my experience, it has a mind of its own and crashes randomly and often. It's not really the NVU developers fault as it is based on mozilla composer and that has the same kind of bugs.

For publishing sites I set up an Ubuntu server with apache and proftp with winbind authentication. Users publish via FrontPage (yuck).

Isn't FrontPage being rebranded so that you can edit/design Sharepoint 2007 pages?

Front Page has been scrapped. Sharepoint designer replaces it for Sharepoint sites; Expression Web Designer for everything else (no idea what the justification is for two very similar products; surely it couldn't just be to make more money for Microsoft ...)

 

Expression is pretty good from first play - unlike Front Page which really didn't do standards compliant HTML, Expression won't produce code which isn't compliant (unless you hand code it)

Never had much luck with NVU or Kompozer, they both seem to have a mind of their own.

 

Been trying First Page 2006 http://www.evrsoft.com/download.shtml for a couple of weeks.

 

Seems ok but has a nag screen when using the free option but might be worth a look.
