Ok....so there I was getting back into bed, when the phone rings......

 

I answer, to find a ring tone, and then a voice says

 

"Hello, I'm phoning to tell you about problems with your computer"

 

YES! I think....I may be feeling crappy, but this could cheer me up loads! The opportunity to wind up some idiot is almost too much for me!

 

Anyway, he says that there are problems, so I ask what sort of problems.

 

He says that every time I open IE, files on my PC are sending stuff out to the internet!

 

I gasp in mock horror!

 

"What can I do?"

 

"Turn your PC on, and I can show you where the problems are"

 

At that point, the line disconnected

 

 

Back to bed I go!!!

One of my coleagues had them going for some time, played it really concerned and then when they tried to connect started talking about firewalls and proxies at the office he was in. He asked if he should inform the IT manager about the possible breach of national security. After the fella umm and arred he eventually hung up.

 

Love winding these callers up.

its not fair, i've never had these.

id love to have a VM filled with fake personal info (like fake bank details.txt or something) and let them log into that.

or better still have a VM with a few pornographic images, then while they try to remotely connect, keep opening stuff up and saying "oh my god how did that get on there....thats my wife!"

Just a quick update............

 

I was sat down last night, when the phone rang. When I picked it up, I get a ringing tone, followed by an awful line, and a voice saying "Hello? I am from (couldn't hear company name as it was garbled) and we have found that your PC is having problems"

 

Conscious of how the line dropped last time, I was straight into it! I asked what the problems were and was told that my PC was spitting out spam to the net, and that if I turned it on, the caller would help me to clear out these problems. I asked why he couldn't tell that my PC was on already! He skipped over this and told me that I should go to my PC and open the browser.

 

At this point, I declined, and asked for more information on the problems. I explained that I work in IT, so know a little bit about things, and would he like to explain what he was going to do, in fine detail?

 

He said that he was not part of a scam (he brought this up before I did!) and that he was calling from an MS certified company, and that he was trying to help me.

 

I pointed out that only recently, a friend of mine had had her Mum (In her 70's) scammed for £200 by this exact same method.

 

He told me again that it wasn't a scam.

 

I told him where he could put his telephone, and put the phone down!

 

I sat back down, but straight away the phone rang again! "You have serious problems with your PC" he said!

 

I replied that the only problem I had was with some git phoning me from an Indian call centre, trying to scam me for money! I put the phone down again!

 

It rang again, and on a remarkably clear line, I heard "You cannot say anything bad about India, otherwise" I put the phone down at this point, and it didn't ring again!

 

At one stage during this, he started to ask if he had the right person, and began saying names and addresses. I told him that he was just plucking these from notes in front of him, and he had no idea who I was, or where I lived.

 

I would like him to phone again.....and maybe next time I'll get the name of the company.....Ofcom would be interested, probably, as would MS.....or would they?!!!
