Login with Fingerprint

We use Acer TimelineX laptops here which are awesome little machines and include a fingerprint reader.

 

Now I have always ignored it but my girlfriend showed me her work machine the other day and she logs on to Windows 7 just by swiping her fingerprint.

 

Anyone know what software you use to do this? I tried looking for biometrics in control panel but its not there

It might be a software package you need to install to get the reader working.

You would need to install the software for the Biometric Fingerprint Reader.

 

I use mine too I have one finger to login to local machine and one finger to login to my domain account.

 

I then have a special finger which i use to authenticate against my servers

I have the Acer BioStore software but there are lots of comments online about it changing the bios settings so I was a little hesitent.

 

Is this not built into windows 7?

Not quite sure, I imagine it's similar to my HP Protect software you just need to configure the options and register your fingerprints against an account.

 

I have not used acer software before so can't be 100% sure mate.

I attempted this on a HP probook laptop before.

Conclusion was the finger print reader was to unrealiable ( Often not detecting finger ) and could take many attempts for a sucessful logon, so it wasnt worth the hassle letting staff use it.

I have not had any issues with my one, although it is fairly new...

Yeh the girlfriend says its revolutionary, works 100% everytime.

 

Played round with the Acer software for ages but dont ever see any way to login with it.

 

Will keep trying.

We looked at this but previously it wasn't compatible with Domain logins. We wanted a blind teacher to be able to use it but had to give up in the end. I used to use a swipe scanner on a tablet I had but it wasn't great, the press on ones were much more reliable. Probably got much better now though.

In terms of accuracy the reader on the TimeLineX has been 100% in my testing.

 

Its just suprising the software to log on isnt so good

 

The girlfriend says her company uses this but I cant find much info about it
