!!HELP!! no icons on desktop!

hey ppl, I have several thin clients on my network. I can ping and RDP into the server but just getting a blue screen with a cursor. When I connect directly into the server I get the same outcome. ??? I noticed also after about 10 to 15 min it all shows up. sometimes. I've restarted the server and the switches they're connected to. I cant Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to a task Man. What seems to be going on? any help on this is appreciated.

Try accessing the event log remotely and see if anything jumps out. Also do a remote gpresult to see if policy is working correctly.

Post anything you find.

thanks for ur reply. I noticed when I unplug the network cable everything comes up. All icons and I can access them. I have no network connectivity ofcourse but right after I unplug the cable it all comes backup. Guessing its a switch issue?

Tbh it smells of a software firewall/dns/group policy issues possibly. Can you use GPMC to get a gpresult?

Something else to check, is it trying to access or map a UNC location that no longer exists?

 

There is/was a huge time-out period when this happens and can present similar symptoms, it also makes "My Computer" hang if its a mapped drive or UNC there.
