Allowing programs via workgroup manager

I have set up a new imac suite and am running osxserver as my od, the integration into ad has gone fine, but i am having a problem.

I am trying to add logic to the list of allowed applications, and to add the icon to the dock, but the program is not installed on the server its self.

Could somebody tell me how to add the program to the allowed list and the dock without physically having it installed on the server, it is installed on the other 15 Imacs, I have been told it can be done.

Many Thanks in advance

Install WorkGroup Manager on any Mac with Logic installed (it can be handy to put this and other admin tools in the dock of any local admin accounts on the Macs for future administration/troubleshooting) and add this to the Open Directory preferences from there. Apply this to a user/computer group as required.

When managing os x client it is good practice to have an additional client machine in your office. This will help you with the creation of the managed preferences. Especially shared area login items as these cannot be mounted directly on the server anyway.

For example managing a shared area you can open WGM on your client and then mount the share you wish to add the the list.

Then in WGM click on the login items option and drag and drop the share into the window.

You can also click the open this using the logged in users name and password option under this window.

This will then allow the user to mount the share automatically using the username and password given during the login process.
