Messages Stuck in Exchange 2010 Queue, until you telnet to smtp server

We have recently setup an exchange server, and find messages sit in the queue, and users get delivery delayed messages, when you telnet to our smtp server, the messages flow through correctly for a while the stop.

 

Obviously SWGfL have the control over the mail records, but they are set correctly.

 

Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this?

1. When the messages in the queue, what the reason why they are there? What does it say?

2. Do the message eventually get delivered or do the senders get an NDR?
