Deus Ex HR: No Steam product code in my copy! Can I get an exchange at the retailer?

Welp. I ordered Deus ex HR through game.co.uk.

 

Opened it up to find this.

Anyone else had this? How does it even happen? Really pissed off about it and game.co.uk has been changed to a all new badly designed website where the contact page/customer service pages are broken to hell.

 

 

I'll be going into my local game, but I doubt they'll do anything about it.

 

1) Bought from game online, I find that the shops wont do anything in relation to the website.

 

2) Game will probably think I just removed the sticker/code that was in there and just gouging for a second code.

 

3) Game will just say its Square Enix's fault and talk to them.

 

I just want to play it tonight! So who has responsibility? Its a manufacture error, however it is a physical problem with a missing code/sticker, so surely the retailer is liable as its not a service but something defective with the physical product?

Actually you will find the local game quite helpful. I bought a pre owned copy of FarCry 2 from there and the disk didnt work, so I took it to my local one and they swapped it out for a sealed copy.

 

If you have the invoice, they will most likely give you a new copy

I purchased my copy of Deus Ex: HR though GreenManGaming (using their 20% off code: 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS) since it was a lot cheaper than buying it directly from Valve. If you click this link you will be able to get the game for £18.79 (Standard Edition) or £25.39 (Augmented Edition). This takes a further £5 off.

 

It doesn't make a lot of sense to buy physical copies of games such as Deus Ex: HR from a high-street shop or online, since all you are really buying is an activation code which downloads it via Steam anyway.

On the topic of Deus Ex, there appears to be some serious launch problems (like normal these days!). As a general rule of thumb:

 

- If you have an ATI card go for it.

- If you have an nVidia card I recommend you avoid the game.

 

What I got to play was fun but performance on nVidia cards are show stoppingly awful.

I've got a GTX460 and it runs very well at 1920x1080

GTX275 and the system should easily run this game. I have it just about running and looking more like HL2 then a new game.

Comet tried to do that when i had a problem with a DVD recorder i purchased. If its basically broken or something wrong when you get it the retailer is obligated to get it sorted and not send you on the manufacture.

Works brilliantly here in 1920x1080 with Nvidia GTX295 SLI and 280.26 drivers. Windows 7 x64

Perhaps you need the latest Nvidia drivers?
