farquea Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 When marking up new equipment we have been using special compound over a stencil sticker which we then peel off which has our school name and postcode displayed. The roll of stencil stickers which have lasted nearly 3 years are about to run out and I was looking at alternatives. I wondered what everyone else does about security marking and if anyone could recommend anything?
joe90bass Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 We use labels from Dantech with school name, postcode and asset number. The latest ones we had are like the MS COA labels in that they are extremely difficult to get off and split rather than peel off if someone attempts to remove them.
K.C.Leblanc Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 The only equipment we mark is laptops. We use the DT departments laser cutter to etch the lids.
plexer Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Avery do tamperproof stickers then you can just laser print all the details you need on them and slap them on. Ben
Hightower Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 We still use the special compound (orange or blue that burns in) as it was reasonably priced. However, last year we ran out of the stickers/stencils to use, and couldn't believe the replacement cost. Now, when we get a batch of new equipment we ask DT to rustle up some avery labels on the laser cutter. He has the file so it takes him minutes to do. Fair enough, paper labels aren't as strong as the 'proper' ones but it still does the job for us.
plexer Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 We are currently using the avery triplebond ones which are plasticky rather than paper. Ben

Hightower Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 (edited) i'm a bit clueless, how do they work, like how do you get on the info you want on them, printed on? and how much and where do you get them from? Like I said, we use normal paper labels and use the laser cutter to cut the text out of them to form a stencil - we use a font made up of lots of little circles so the bit in the middle of 'D' or 'O' or 'P' doesn't come away. I'd imagine Plexer does a similar thing with the 'plasticy' type labels he has EDIT: I stand corrected with regards to what Plexer uses Edited July 20, 2011 by Hightower
plexer Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 With the avery ones we use they just go through a normal laser printer colour or mono. The adhesive on them is very good but like I say they also do tamper resistant ones which break into bits if you try and pick them off. Ben
