We are using SCCM to deploy Windows 7 and as part of our OSD task we are installing the latest version of Flash (both the plugin and ActiveX). Flash installs fine, but it seems that Windows 7 comes pre-loaded with version 8. Whenever we visit a say requiring Flash (say youtube) it complains about needed an upgrade.

Is there a way to remove Flash 8 from the Windows 7 WIM?

Flash Player definitely isn't included with Windows 7 by default. Are you using IE9 or a different web browser?

In that case it must be coming with the browser, but I installed IE8 and it comes with Flash 8. If stop IE8 from being installed using an answer file and then install IE9 as part of the OSD task, it also comes with Flash 8. The reason I thought it must be with Windows 7 is I couldn't understand why IE9 would include an old verison of Flash.

So, i'll change the question, can it be unbundled from the browser?

Would it be possible to post a screenshot of the exact message you are seeing? Flash Player isn't bundled with any browsers (except Google Chrome).

Are you deploying Flash Player via SCCM using the official Adobe MSIs?

IE8 is pre-installed in Windows 7. Sounds like an old version of flash has found its way into your image. Or an non-vanilla image was made.... regardless...

SCCM relies on command line features: msiexec /x whatever.msi to uninstall, you'll need to look in the reg for flash references for where the uninstaller is located (it'll have a unique id string and you'll need to reference the path in the above cmd line). I cant tell you this because its different for every point release, plus if we dont know how it got there, the uninstaller might be missing.

As others have said, Flash 8 is not pre-bundled with any version of Internet Explorer.

Flash 8 was commonly included with a huge number of educational software packages though.
