Do you see online parental engagement as part of your VLE...

I see it as part of a broad VLE, however, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same tools / technology used to deliver it, so in that sense you could treat it as a separate entity/module/product .

We allow parents to access our VLE (Moodle) to view our MIS data (Serco). My hhope is that eventually our VLE would also be our MIS :)

As VLE used more and more by depts allows parents to see homework that has been set in lessons via VLE and things like behaviour and attendance in MIS

each of our students has a personal learning plan on our moodle VLE. Parents have access to that plan via a separate parent account and so can see their wards progress. We also use this plan heavily as part of parents evening.

We will be using our Moodle VLE to connect students with teachers, parents with teachers and parents with student data including homework.

This will become our one stop shop for teachers, students and parents. :)

Just seems the right thing to do moving forward. :)

We're integrating parental reporting into our Moodle VLE. Like bossman our aim is to have a one stop shop for everything :)

How are you proposing to go about this?

Parental engagement is not about portals or vles. Engagement is about multi approach as been said before Primary schools are prime examples of this (the book that goes home to parents is parent engagement). Its a whole school approach...

Thanks Russ. Whilst appreciating that there are many ways to engage parents, I was looking for views on this specific aspect (online reporting), and if Edupeeps felt it better to integrate it with their VLE, rather than have it as a stand alone program.

For us we're going to be utilising the SchoolsICT Moodle ZiLink for SIMS module. One reason for us doing this is it takes care of our course enrolments within Moodle, gives us a great parental reporting facility and provides a really nice timetabling/change of room/room booking system for staff and students, including linking to that lessons Moodle page.

The whole package/integration just makes much more sense for us and in our opinion improves our entire VLE offering.

sorry misunderstood OP. Then as tony said depends if some benefit to both school and parent then yes.

We have SLG tied into the MLE, Learn Sheffield, which is our Hosted Solution as a result of BSF.

I would much have preferred running our own VLE which would have included SLG.

Still, the Sheffield MLE is now operating efficiently in terms of SLG thanks to the input of Capita and myself, and some hard work via Civica - the Hosting company!
