Hi,

We have a HP StorageWorks MSA2000 ISCI here. I haven't got allot of experience with HP kit, Dell i could do this easy :D

I want to add 11 more drives. To configure this i gathered you plug the network in the back of the unit to a laptop and use abit of software to configure. I cant find the software or docments to show you how to get into it.

Does anyone have any advice please?

What is the default IP of it please?

Thanks

The hp gear has a web interface for config, you just plug in the managment port to the network and it will pick up an address from DHCP by default. You can use a resvervation to static it or just use the serial interface to configure the managment interface and drives anyway.

For initial setup I'd use the serial config anyway as unless you have the latest firmware it can get a bit confused with certain configurations. You will want the latest firmware anyway if it does not have it already to remove the accidental security hole that hp left in there.

Once you get into the interface it is really easy though and way better than having some additional scruffy vendor software on a server.

default ip is 10.0.0.2, but if its setup it'll be different, along with the manage, !manage username and password defaults.

as above, serial connection will tell you everything without messing around with IPS.

Thats ONE of the default IPs (I set an old dual controller up on the day you posted it!), is it a dual controller unit or single?

I would plug in a serial connection, bring up hyperterminal and do 'show config' that'll tell you everything inc the IP. you can set ip info in here too so you can go via a browser after initial setup.

You have downloaded the manuals and familiarised yourself with the device? While the MSA2000 is a great device, I wouldn't advise trying to extend the array without first understanding the underlying configuration.

Hi,

I added 1 x 300GB disc and i expanded the Vdisk, but it took just over a week for it to complete, is this normal please?

I have 10 x 300GB to add this week. I wont be doing them one by one but all together. Should it have taken this long?

Thanks
