[sims] How I do a setup a trusted login on sims?

Hi,

 

can anyone help me out here I want to setup a trusted (auto) logon with our sims server but not sure how I setup a trusted user. we only have sims installed in one place so only myself and other trusted staff have access. I need to setup a trusted logon to allow this third party extractor to work automatically.

Two things:

1) in system manager the sims user needs to be configured to use a windows account. Click the magnifying glass next to the username box and it should let you browse the active directory creating a \ account with no password.

 

Be careful, the third party app should have it's own sims user and whichever user is logged in and runs the process will have to be the one linked.

 

2) the local or central connect.ini file needs an addition ->

 

Either,

ConnectionType=Trusted

Which prompts you to use trusted or supply credentials, or,

 

ConnectionType=TrustedAuto

Which tries auto login and prompts for credentials if it fails.

 

I think you'll want that second type and I'd make all users have a trusted login.

It's only useful if all users are going trusted. We'll be mixed mode for a while but admin offices are slowly moving over.

For number 2. centeral.ini is this the ini for sims or the .ini for the third party application?

 

the third party application usese the command CommandReporterOptions = "/TRUSTED /QUIET".....

 

which I beleive is what we need.

 

so to be sure on this for number 1 I just need to create a windows login account for that user in sims? is this correct? (following the procedure as specified above?)

Well for a start, command reporter doesn't need trusted logins, so you can create a SIMS user account for this third party app, or just let it use your credentials, though most third party apps require certain extra permissions groups, e.g. third party reporting, so i'd go with giving them a SIMS account plus it's better for auditing.

 

What is this application and which company provides it? They should have a guide to help you through this.

 

The parameters are /USER and /PASSWORD , just run it with "/?" to see the help.

 

If you do want to continue with a trusted login, then in answer to your question, it's the sims "connect.ini" file i was talking about. If you only have SIMS installed in one place, you probably just have the one file. I don't know why the app would have it's own connect.ini, though i have seen some implementations where they want a local one.

 

For your second question, you should have a SIMS user and then you map that user to a windows account, the one that will be logged in / running the command reporter task. This is done via system manager.
