Graphics Card drivers kill windows..

Hi All,

 

I have an odd issue which i cant work out... I need to install the drivers for the graphics card on a windows XP machine (Nvidia Geforce 7300) but when the drivers are installed (latest drivers from the nvidia site) on reboot windows fails to boot. It completely freezes on apply settings and thats it. The only way back into the system is to choose "Last know configuration"

 

Any ideas why this is happening? I would have thought that a simple driver install would be simple...

I presume the heat sink / fan are

 

1. seated firmly and correctly with the correct amount of thermal paste so as to disipate heat correctly

2. All dust etc has been blown out and the fan is working correctly

 

Also with nvidia cards you sometimes get better performance or it works better when using a slightly older driver ( not the latest ) so may be worth while trying that or trying the driver that came on the disc with the card ?

I've seen this once before and it's usually associated with a clash between the installed drivers and a new one. Uninstall any gfx card driver from your system using device manager, reboot, and on statup it should look for the correct drivers without any corruption from the preinstalled one.

Ill try and remove all the drivers, I have tried the CD and the latest but still the same problem

Should be able to boot into safe mode and remove all drivers in safe mode and then restart and do it that way
