I am trying to setup sims on a new 2008R2 server. I have SQL2008r2 setup but get the following error at the start of the install:

MS SQL 2000 SP3 Desktop Engine Installation: Package MISSING!

Should I be finding this SP3 file? or doing something else?

Cheers

EDIT: Also what files need to be installed prior to Sims install? what about .net?

Is this error when trying to install SIMS? If so, how are you installing?

My advice would be to install from the latest install ISO from Capita, then the latest update ISO (if you aren't already).

Regarding what you need installed on the server before you start; very little. Install the OS, run Windows Update (you may need to do this more than once; updates to updates), install SQL, run Windows Update (again, try it more than once). Install SIMS (which will install .NET etc).

Ms SQL 2000 ? Really? Odd.

There are lots or prerequisites but the SQL installer should do a check and install them for you. Most if not all will be done via updates so by the time you put the SQL cd in it should be fine.

Then just run the latest Spring 2011 installable available from Capita SupportNet

You've got an out of date SIMSINST. I'll PM you URL you can get the latest one from.

Is there any chance I could trouble you for that please? Trying to get a setup done to do some Windows 7 testing in a seperate environment but all I keep getting is a message saying "Package Missing" for everything even though they are there in the setups folder I have copied from a working machine....

You'll need to ask for the latest installable CD from Capita \ your LA. I don't actually bother any more what with SOLUS3.

Unfortunately our LA seems to be a keen believer that SIMS is holy and should be feared amongst us mere mortals. I shall try Capita but being self employed they may be a little hesitant to help me out, we shall see :)

You really have to access files direct from Capita, via SupportNet or otherwise.

If you work at a school, then you'll have access.

If you work for a school, then you could use their access to SIMS support or SupportNet access to get what you need.

We really have to avoid sharing files privately for security reasons. Hope you can get what you need from them.
