DLW13 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Hi, Any suggestion on what OS/Software can be used to convert old PCs into thin clients that are capable of running VMWare View Client with PCOIP? How would I go about getting it setup? Any guides anywhere? I've already tried this: vmware view linux live cd howto*|*Conrey.org but it didn't seem to run VMWare View on startup, just sat with desktop background, also apparently VMWare Open View client doesn't support PCOIP... Kind Regards,
DLW13 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 I can't seem to find an application that supports PCOIP to use in conjunction with Thinstation though... We have just bought a new Wyse terminal which has VMWare View 4.5 installed and supports PCOIP, surely its possible to install that application on any linux based system then? But where can it be downloaded from?
FN-GM Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Thinstation is the actual OS itself, most people PXE boot the OS. You can also install it on the local HDD
Arthur Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Not sure if these are of any use? VMware Optimization Guide for Windows 7 (Via) VMware View 4.5 - Thin Client with PCoIP using Windows 7 (Part 1) 1
Ric_ Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Windows ThinPC is supposed to be available for download for SA customers today... I can't see it yet mind Windows Thin PC by Microsoft | Windows Enterprise
DLW13 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks Arthur, I've spent too much time already trying to configure Linux based OS' (OpenSUSE, Thinstation, etc). It doesn't help having no linux knowledge at all combined with the fact that following through online guides step by step don't produce the expected results.. I'll try the Stripped down Windows 7 Method!
DLW13 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Ric_, yes I've been following the developments of Windows TPC, seems to have vanished from the Microsoft/Windows sites though..
AshEarl Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 how about LTSP? This works very very well on our network and we have some really old dogs of pc's running using it.
riffleman Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Windows ThinPC is supposed to be available for download for SA customers today... I can't see it yet mind Probably released at at a certain time in the US, e.g. PDT which is 8 hours behind us.
Ric_ Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Probably released at at a certain time in the US, e.g. PDT which is 8 hours behind us. It was still downloading when I left work... I think EVERYONE must be wanting it! It's odd how the cut down version of Windows is still a 1.5GB download!!!
