Jamie_a Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Does anyone know if there is a frontend for sims that would allow students to look up their timetable. I`m having a look in the sql tables as I`m not afraid of a bit of coding but if theres somthing out there it would save me some work.
webman Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I doubt there's an easy way to do that - it is SIMS A long-way round would be to could create a specially-crafted report within SIMS, export it, then do some conversion on the resulting XML/CSV file to put it in a format your app will understand.
Sylv3r Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 You could use Sims Learning Gateway http://www.capitaes.co.uk/SIMS/gatewaydemo/index.asp not sure on the exact price of it but it uses something called 'webparts' that SIMS have developed.
sabe Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Hi, I was interested in exactly doing this until I found out you had to go through quite a few hoops to jump through as you are not allowed to access the data directly (although you can) as this will void your warranty. I have actually written a front end and linked the authentication to Active directory so a student can log in and see their timetable via bromcom at the moment, but am still trying to sort the 'hoops'. I have also developed for posting yearbooks, statements, ICT logging, etc . . and am developing more each week, I just then need to move the data source to SIMS once I get the go ahead and some more writing. Obviously dependent on the hoops it might not happen but if it does: I am doing this to look at making a saleable product, if you are interested could you please email or PM me so that I can get a feel if people would actually like a product like this developed from a school rather than business point of view as I am sure I am not reinventing the wheel.
