Unifi 35 & Smartboard 680 intermittently switching off

Unifi 35 projector (SB680) is intermittently switching off approx 3 times a day. Sometimes it will flicker first before switching off. Teacher has just reported that it has happened again, so had a look and the screen is blank, lamp is lit but giving a dull light, power switch on front of screen flashing red and the usb connection light flashing green. Only way I can get it back is to power off/on and it works again.

 

I've replaced the lamp, cleaned the vents around the lamp and at the top of the unit (wall end plate), but problem persists. Anyone know whats causing this?

Do you remember to reset the lamp hours?

 

We did have one Unfi35 Projector will the same fault, out of warranty and Steljes' recommended repairers wanted over £2k to fix it!!!

Ended up replacing with a Casio XJ-A140

Hi bertster,

 

We've got a similar problem, was fixed for about 20 hours after replacing the lamp but now its happening again. I only just started working here and was told that it was out of warranty, but looking on Smart's website I still have 6 months! I know they'd told us before that it was definitely heat related and can only be fixed with a whole new arm, at which point you may as well buy a whole new rig...

 

So now that I know it is in warranty I'll be able to really find out what the cause is and report back.

I think you will find it is the ballast unit that has a fault, this drives the lamp, i think on those the unit is NEC and discontinued, chepest option would be to replace it with another projector either Hitachi or Epson for reliability.
