Fixed my first proper Domain/AD thinghy fault!

I've temporarily taken over a school with a "proper" W2k3 Domain server/clients (with some sort of Viglen admin tool on top of it ) and a teacher couldn't logon.

 

I asked ehre to try another machine - it worked so I logged on as admin on her machine, deleted her folder from docs & settings and voila - all seems t work again.

 

So I'm feeling like a proper net manager today

 

BUT ...

if even I know to delete corrupt profiles - how come ms MS hasn't managed

 

1. To stop corrupting the profiles in the first place (I don't get any of my normal files corrupted)

 

2. To just deal with the siutation and delete the profile itself!!!!

 

And it really annoys me when a user has a fault and I need to log tem off and log on as admin to look into it - why can't I have a magic button to override restrictions and let me change desktop res now!!!!

1) profiles are complex beasts. The teacher could have powered off during logging off.

2) you can set GPOs to delete locally stored profiles.

 

install user hive cleanup then you can remotely delete without resorting to rebooting. Just store a "correct" profile somewhere and copy over busted ones.
