Hey,

Silly question, but where do you find out the sort of work students should be learning during their years?

Assuming there's some set guidelines to follow that revision/teaching resources need to fulfil?

Or in other words where do resourcespick what to teach?

Apologies if I missed something obvious

There are national guidelines in which they must meet, however, how you teach them is down to you.

For example, we have a data handling section in which the students must input data into excel and use various functions within excel (average, count, sum etc)

We get the students to do set running distances (which for the most part they enjoy), it gets timed and we use those results as its pertinent to them, however the school that my close friend works at gets the students to copy results from the science dept that they have nothing to do with. Get the children actively involved and you will have a better lesson and they will like ICT more. (learnt from experience)

Don't suppose you have a link to any of the guides?

Assumed they'd be on council/gov site but seems my monday morning google-Fu skills are failing

Many thanks,

It is broad ... but when you get into KS4 & KS5 you have to go to the different exam boards to see what courses they offer and what each course covers. The resources for teaching GCSE English with AQA differ from those required for EdExcel.

At KS1 & KS2 it is a bit more open ended, and the review of the national strategies is likely to result in a number of changes too. If you are on twitter the follow the hashtag of #UKEdChat for more background on where to find resources, how children learn / teachers teach and more discussion around the pedagogy of it all. You can get some of this from the TES Forums ... but folk on there can be a bit cynical ... apparently.
