Video Conferencing

Hello Edugeekers,

 

I'm looking for some video conferencing software which'll work within a LAN only and require no external WAN connection. I've had a look at Windows Netmeeting on XP, but support seems pretty poor as Microsoft aren't fully supporting the product on Vista and 7. And for some reason, the webcam works OK with its own basic software/drivers, however all video options are greyed out within Netmeeting. Again, it seems a common problem but no answer how to address this.

 

There are many IM applications out there, but it needs to be LAN only so we can control who pupils are video conferencing with. Seems simple enough, but I have spent hours searching with little results...

Nice idea, but I think it'll be far too expensive for the purpose intended. It looks like it's going to costs thousand(s) at least.

It's been a long while since I last used them but the openfire server/spark client apparently has video support with the red5 plugin?

I think that the MS Lync cals are soon going to be included in the Core Cal pack of the Microsoft EES License agreement. So it wouldn't cost much if your already on this agreement.

A more affordable alternative to MS Lync is RHUB web conferencing appliance.

OpenSource video conferencing / shared whiteboard etc etc. Works rather well.

BigBlueButton looks good, wonder how stable it would be running on hyper-v.
