I stripped one down recently to get the Neodymium magnet to try and restore some magnets here...

 

The mega shiny platter is above my desk and I use it to see who is standing behind me

I like dismantling broken ones for the magnets too lol

I too dismantle for magnets, yet to use any but it seems a waste to throw away!

Teenage son loves dismantling HDDs. The magnets from a busted server drive are particularly powerful... near impossible to part!
