6Foot2 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I want to change the proxies used by Staff. Using IEAK was painful for me but having set it about two years ago it has been working well and I left it and forgot it. Now I want to change those settings but I can't find how to do it. I have tried running a report [RSOP] and I can't see where Staff get their proxy settings from. I have also tried merging a registry fragment at logon. The reg frag does get inserted [i paused the CMD file so that I could see the DOS window and look for errors: There were none] However the proxies remain stubbornly unchanged. I can change the proxies by hand but this is the only time when the setting change. Can anyone suggest how to tackle this maddening problem? [i want to leave the settings for Students in place perhaps removing IEAK at a later date] Many thanks.
cromertech Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I think your problem is IEAK. I think that it applies all it's setting at the start of IE every time or at least on first start in order to prevent any third party customisation from applying. I think you need to find the custom settings file that it applies (Proxy.ins or something) and remove that or generate a whole new IE build/reinstall a standard IE and use group policy to set it up.
sven Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Never used IEKA, but using Group Policy works very well. If all machines on site will be using the same proxy, just apply the change to the default domain policy.
round2it Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 just to jump on this one ie proxy settings are a user setting if i create a new gpo with different proxy settings and add that to where my staff are kept will the gpo overright the default domain policy?

I needed to apply a fix in a hurry and found that IEAK did the job. Now I can't find out how to remove it [it has been a while since I applied IEAK and now I have forgotten how I did it/where the settings are. ]

6Foot2 Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 If you enforce it yes. I am sure that I have enforced this change in the new GPO I have created. However I can't be sure. It is worth a look. As a reminder what I am trying to do is overwrite any changes that IEAK might enforce. If this can be done I can move forward as I want to be able to give both Staff and Student users proxies according to their OU locations. Thank you.
