moodle cron on ubuntu

Please could somebody tell me how to setup a cron schedule on our moodle server to run and test to see if it has ran?

The question seems a bit confused.

 

Assuming you mean to make a cron job and then prove the cron job has run, then I suggest you look at making cron send an email to yourself?

I would install webmin on your server.... it really will save you loads of hassle!!
