RM CC3 - User proxy settings going walkies!

Hi there,

 

I have created a new User Type in RMMC to relax a few settings for our photography students and have entered the details into the Proxy settings. However, a new user who I have assigned to this new user type cannot get access to the internet. If I elevate the privilages of this user so that they can see the internet explorer settings, the proxy details are blank. If I enter the details manually and then revert the privilages back to the slightly altered standard user setup the the setting will remain there.

 

This also happens to normal students who are allocated the RM 'Standard' user type. Again if we elevate there privilages, login as them, enter the proxy settings, log off, change user type back to standard and let them lo in again, the settings remain, at least for the time being.

 

 

This issue happens with users who are on different user types and also under Internet and Email Setting in RMMC the proxy details are entered correctly.

 

We've got a call open with RM but don't appear to be getting anywhere fast!

 

Anyone got any ideas?

There should be a document on the RM site that lists the default GPO order for CC3 (I think, I know there's a CC4 one).

 

May be worth checking that the Internet and Email policy is correctly configured and in the correct location to ensure it's actually getting applied.

Do you just have one proxy for all users? Or do you have one for staff and one for students?

 

If you just have one proxy, the way we have it setup is we untick the proxy settings in RMMC > User Types > Name of Custom UserType > Proxy Server

Then in RMMC > Internet and Email Settings > Proxy Server enter in your proxy settings here and it'll apply the sdettings to everyone.

 

If you have 2 proxies, I believe the UserType settings overrides the Internet and Email Settings > Proxy Server settings so you could then manually enter the 2nd proxy into the required UserTypes. Please Please test this just in case I am wrong about UserType settings overriding other settings as I refuse to be held responsible for other peoples lack of planning and testing!

Hi there,

 

Our issue was due to permission issues when gpo's were being applied. I'll copy the case notes and put them on here when I get in tomorrow. They may help!
