I've got a an Intel Server Board S3210SH with a Xeon on it.. and a RAID card SRCS16

 

It has stopped booting from the RAID card..

 

I go into the BIOS and change the boot order to RAID first. But it keeps changing back to EFI first. EFI should default to last.

 

Save Changes, go back into Boot Order, changed back!

 

Even the Boot Manager part of it that is a one time boot, if you choose RAID, boots EFI first.

 

I've done the BIOS CLR CMOS jumper thing, and done the battery out, short the terminals thing...

 

The error manager in the BIOS says yep cleared OK, etc.

 

I've even updated the motherboards BIOS to the latest..

 

Anyone seen this type of thing before?

Warrenty job, this is why I don't trust intel boards, have had similar fun with some desktop boards that have done all sorts of thick stuff like failing incremental BIOS updates and loosing RAM slots between BIOS upgrades.

 

Sounds like dodgey memory in the BIOS chip itself which is not something that is really solvable without a swap out. Had something simmilar with an end of life (9 year old) hp server that would not set the boot options to the RAID card. In the end to keep it going for just that little bit longer I ended up leaving a Windows CD in the drive as its bootloader would trigger when the system ran out of other things to boot from then the CD would chain load to any other bootable devices which as it happened included the RAID card. Got another six months out of the thing till we could get budget for a replacement.
