glennda Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I'm currently looking into telephone systems - which i why i created the other thread a few weeks ago. I've had a couple of companies come in and show me Mitel / Splicecom systems which have looked really good. I'm trying to build a case for hosting a Trixbox/asterisk system. I'm currently thinking of buying a server and putting trixbox on it but not 100% sure of an interface to present the ISDN (possibly 30E if we upgrade) nor handsets to go with - I've been recommended a few from a friend but they are all End of line as he hasn't bought any recently. Does anybody have a recommendation as to what works? I can then finalise the proposal and submit to SLT/Governors for approval.
glennda Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 What about the Polycom IP 321 for an entry level phone for teaching staff and then Polycom IP 550 or http://uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/telephones/PLYLG6706L for the needs of the more advanced users (admin office etc) What do people think?
jamesreedersmith Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Grandstream phones are great - reasonable price, a good range of models for various users and the end point configuration manager in Trixbox will work with them for easy configuration. Also for a more secured and stable version look at PBX in a Flash PBX in a Flash

From what i've looked up i heard mixed reviews on the grandstream stuff. I'll look at PBX in a flash but the reason i looked at trixbox as a friend is using it and was going to help me set it all up as will have a tight turn around.
jamesreedersmith Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 PBX in a flask and trixbox are both variants of Asterisk (the core system) and both use freePBX as the interface. PBX is just a more hardened system. I ran a major scout event on the grandstream phones (400+ extensions) and they were floorless.
glennda Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 I'll look at the grandstream phones i'm now struggling on the interface how to present the ISDN30e (which we'll probably upgrade to as will be getting incoming BT running to the server room from seperate comms room) the phones and server bit i can handle its just th ISDN i'm not sure about
jamesreedersmith Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 You will need a PRI interface card - something like PRI/E1 (ISDN30) OpenVox D110P 1-port ISDN PRI/E1 PCI to interface from the ISDN TA to the PBX box. I do a lot of consultancy work on trixbox, asterisk and PBX in a flash so PM me if you need help/advice or any assistance from speccing the box to vlan config to dial plans etc. 1
